what we do
We help parents and professionals show up as the wise, trusted leaders their families and communities need, whilst taking deep care of themselves and what is meaningful to them.
We help you put what you know and learn into practice, so you can engage more skillfully with the intensity of parenting under pressure; we don’t shy away from the uncomfortable truths of parenting such as shame and rage and child-to-parent violence.
We help you identify what limits your capacity to take compassionate action, and teach tools that help you transcend reactive, defensive patterns, so you can think, feel and act in alignment with your visions and values – not just in the heat of the moment with your child, but in the way you live your life. Because you matter too.
Our non-therapeutic, pragmatic, body-centred approach helps you cultivate the kind of embodied trust that comes from grounded authenticity, congruence and integrity, and through fostering a felt-sense of safety, belonging and acceptance.
Because when children trust the relationship is strong enough to take their weight, no matter how difficult the challenge, their own internal state can shift; they can soften their alarm response, and let go of their need for defensive behaviours.
Learn By Doing
Embodied Learning is how we bridge the gap between the parent we aspire to be and the one we discover we become when things get messy. Parenting isn’t something we do just with our heads. Our hearts, histories, hopes, and habits show up too – sometimes consciously, sometimes hidden from awareness. And they are held in the body, Which is why we can trip up and get reactive, despite our best intentions.
Traditional ways of learning can be informative, but they are rarely transformative; our insights, beliefs and actions aren’t tested, and we can’t guarantee we can put new learning into practice when it matters most. So in our trainings we don’t just think about theories and solutions, we explore, feel and practice them, embedding what we learn into our muscles, where they are available to use when we need them most.
And because we don’t just parent sitting calmly on the yoga mat or in a classroom, we include partner and group practices in the trainings, because it’s in relationship that our biggest triggers show up.
Relational practices help you study your stress response and discover what nourishes and supports you to take intentional, as opposed to reactive, action when confronting different parenting challenges.
Choice, integrity, integration
We don’t expect anyone to be a perfect parent; in fact we help you live more easily with the mistakes and the mess, because triggers and ruptures that inevitably occur in relationship, can be powerful moments of insight, repair and healing
Embodied learning is not about changing who you are, it’s about giving you access to more choice in how you think, feel and act, because some choices lead us towards greater integrity, integration and outcomes than others. We don’t promise to solve all your parenting problems, but you can trust you can act more wisely more often when you can access a resourced, regulated and integrated state.
” When the child we are trying to love and heal is the same child who attacks and reject us…we risk taking on their anger, shame and trauma as our own. Through practice we learn to embody an unwavering stance that says to our child,
‘Your rejection fires more love in me. Your hardness fuels more compassion. Your rage inspires my ferocious commitment to protect you from further harm.
And when you push me away for the thousandth time, because no one taught you how to stay, the steadier I will stand on your behalf, until you can trust this relationship is strong enough to take trauma’s weight, and you feel safe enough to lean into my care
